Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in Cheshire has been using MedisecTRUST to automatically generate clinical correspondence such as clinic attendance letters and discharge information and MedisecNET for electronic delivery direct to the GP practice since June 1999. The technology saves secretarial staff between 40% and 60% of their average working day, saving the Trust around 17,000 hours in recouped administration time - or £100k every year.

The hospital also uses MedisecEReferrals (GP) to service the UK's largest electronic patient referral system. The Trust has linked up to 33 surgeries across Cheshire, Flintshire and the Wirral with over 2,600 e-referrals made every month - more than a quarter of all the referrals received by the hospital.

MedisecEReferrals (Social Services) is also being used to enable nursing staff at the Countess to notify social workers when patients are fit for discharge 24 hours a day - without having to wait for office hours - through a secure electronic communications link. The technology ensures that patients do not have to spend longer than they need to in hospital, and that when they do leave, they are discharged appropriately with all the care services they need already in place.
