GPs & Practice Managers

GPs will be delighted to receive the new Medisec discharge forms. This should prompt other specialities to do the same.

Dr Alison Hutton, GP, Mount Road Surgery, Gorton

Medisec has cut our paper-handling costs significantly. As this is true electronic communication, we no longer have to spend time scanning in documents and we can manipulate text easily by copying and pasting. This dramatically reduces the need to re-input patient details and the associated chance of error, so the net effect is much more accurate patient records. The ability to view future hospital appointments allows diligent GPs to ensure that an ill patient will definitely be seen soon enough, and if not, to chase.

Dr David Morris, GP, St Mark’s Dee View Surgery, Flintshire

Before the new software, we would produce the referral, print it out and put it in an envelope. Now, the patients love seeing the message flash on the screen, confirming that the hospital server has received the referral before they get up from their chair in my consulting room. It’s very reassuring both for them and us.

Dr David Morris, GP, St Mark’s Dee View Surgery, Flintshire

The discharge notes which we get from the consultant often don’t arrive until weeks, and sometimes even months, after the patient has been discharged, and often it is a case of too little too late. The Medisec electronic template system provides us with all the information we need to enable us to provide high quality ongoing care for our patients. It has given general practice the opportunity to say what we need and to ensure standards are consistently high.

Dr Helen Hosker, Clinical Lead for Strokes and Falls, NHS Manchester

Medisec is the missing link. By providing one central electronic funnel which a whole range of providers can drop information into, it allows everyone to talk to one another in a consistent way. It means that we get critical clinical information from the hospital overnight rather than it sitting in out-trays, waiting to be printed or being lost in the post!
